BIG congrats to Twitter follower Andrew Currie for scoring the HTC One!
With over a hundred thousand Twitter followers and Facebook fans — or 50K if they’re the same users on both networks — the odds of little old me winning anything in a Mobile Syrup contest are slim at best. And yet I seem to have done just that.
Hey, don’t hate the player, hate the game.
This Telus-branded 2013 flagship device from HTC is making its way to me now. So what’s the first thing I’m going to do with it? Why, unlock it of course!
With no AWS support the One won’t work on my carrier; I took a quick look at Telus Mobility plans here in Ontario and confirmed that they suck. Fortunately, I don’t even need a SIM card to enjoy this new toy out and about — thanks to my new MiFi, that is. I’m curious, though, as to what kind of data speeds (and battery life) I can get using my Bell micro-SIM and the device’s on-board LTE radio.
I do need to be ready for the eventual exit of WIND et al from the Canadian market, after all…
I probably shouldn’t be telling you this, but it’s not the first time I’ve won a phone. I’ll likely be keeping this One (see what I did there?) for quite a bit longer, though — especially if I can root it.
As for right now, a big thanks to the team at Mobile Syrup, for the phone (obviously) but also for their tireless work covering Cana-duh’s wireless beat. Like me, I’m sure their other Facebook and Twitter fans aren’t just following for the contests.
